Plot:
Manika Jodi, a social hit depicts how the love of property of a man blinds him to the family affections which serve as the golden cord of worldly life.
Barada Prasanna Patnaik is a person who regards property as superior to his earthly obligations. Annoyed with the refusal of Nilambaer Roy to marry his sister Sarojini who ultimately committed suicide for the break-up of negotiations for marriage. Barada was determined to wreak vengeance on the Roy family. He got his neice Sailo married to Partha, son of Nilambar Roy.
A motivated situation was created by Barada who took back Sailo home and refused to send her to her father-in-law’s house unless Partha became worthy of conducting himself with dignity and self-reliance. When Sidhartha came to take Sailo back home and raised the question of compromise regarding the lands in the village of Manik Jodi forcibly occupied by Barada Prasanna the latter turned a deaf ear to the proposal. Sidhartha entreated Barada to hand it over to his brother Partha as dowry. His entreaties fallen were all in vain and he returned home insulted. Sailo was forcibly separated from her husband.

A devoted Hindu wife that Sailo was, she ran away from Barada’s house and took shelter in the family of her uncle Narasundar. In the meanwhile Partha who had refused Sailo because of his brother’s insults, tried to marry again ignoring Sailo completely.
Events followed in quick succession. Siddhartha and Barada tried to re-occupy the lands in the village of manika Jodi which Sidhartha had already taken over from Govind Das of Baghapada. To baffle Barada’s efforts, Sidhartha directed his brother Partha to erect a building over nighton the disputed land and accordingly it was done. The scheming Barada became as violent as wounded lion and proceeded to demolish the construction. It almost led to a fight between the two camps. The agents of Barada caught hold of Partha at midnight, wounded him and carried him to Barada’s house. Sidharatha on receiving the news of the villainy of Barada rushed to Baghapada and while coming back with injured Partha, was mercilessly shot at by Barada. Destiny had its own revenge and the shot missed Sidhartha and hit his own niece Sailo instead.
