Synopsis: Jayanta is intensely in love with Manasi. They preparing to marry when Jayanta is struck down wit severe attack of pox which deprives him of eye-sight. On second thoughts Manasi decides to give him up and go another way. Jayanta, on the other hand, cannot believe that Manasi is inconstant.
While under treatment for blindness Jayanta luckily comes across a noble nurse. Malati, who takes keen interest in the patient. She is distressed to see Jayanta pining for his love and strives to bring Manasi back to him, but in vain. Her interest in the blind man increases, and to bring him relief and solace she attempts and, after some initial diculty, succeeds in impersonating for Manasi. And when nothing but grafting is found to be the remedy for Jayanta’s blindness, she even donates one of her own eyes. Jayanta regains his lost power, but frets and fumes when he fails to find Manasi around. His old faithful servant, who has also been another benefactor in his adversity, brings him round. The self effacing Malati has quietly slipped out to end her life, but a last minute dash by Jayanta and his friends save her.
